runDisney is going all in on nostalgia for summer 2026, with a retro theme for this year’s Virtual Series. The event runs from June 1 through August 31 and lets participants complete their races from wherever they are, all while earning a new set of Disney-themed medals.
Unlike the in-person race weekends at Walt Disney World Resort, this series is built to be flexible. You can run or walk on your own time, wherever it works for you. Around your neighborhood, on a treadmill, or out on a local trail. It’s meant to fit into your routine, not the other way around.
Each race is inspired by a different Disney favorite, with a focus on classic stories and characters. The throwback theme carries through to the medals, which lean into bold, retro designs that feel just as fun to collect as they are to earn.
Go the Distance Virtual 5K
We’re sure you’ll give this 3.1-mile adventure a most herculean effort being that it’s themed to the 1997 Disney movie Hercules and all. Though we don’t recommend running in sandals.
Kuzcotopia Virtual 5K
One of the great things about this 3.1-mile run themed to 2000’s The Emperor’s New Groove is that you can bound as a self-centered, spoiled and vain emperor without anyone judging!
Just Around the Riverbend Virtual 5K
On this 3.1-mile Pocahontas – themed run, you can be as free spirited as the 1995 classic’s title Character herself. Even stopping to talk to some forest animal friends along the way.
An Extremely Goofy Virtual Challenge
‘Goof off to the Max’ by taking on all three virtual 5K races––for a total of 9.3 miles––and earn an extra medal themed to 1995’s A Goofy Movie. Stand out!
For many participants, the medals are the main draw, and this year’s designs look to continue that trend. Each one reflects its respective theme in a way that’s both playful and display-worthy, making the series appealing whether you’re chasing a personal record or just in it for the fun.
Registration for the 2026 runDisney Virtual Series opens April 7, 2026, at 10 a.m. Eastern. As with past years, spots are expected to go quickly, especially among collectors and repeat participants who look forward to adding each new set of medals to their lineup. Each of the Virtual 5Ks is priced at $59 per participant, and the Virtual Challenge costs $185.
