SeaWorld San Diego to get new coaster

SeaWorld San Diego has begun its move away from Shamu and toward more thrills with the announcement of a new roller coaster coming in 2018.

The Electric Eel includes loops, twists and a 150-foot ascent before sending guests into an inverted roll that will give them an upside-down view of Mission Bay.  The coaster will have forward and backward elements and multiple launches before topping out at 62 mph.

Special lighting and sound effects on the ride will help add to the “eel” feel.

Electric Eel will be the second phase of the Ocean Explorer area that is set to open this year.  A new eel aquarium will be added as well.

SeaWorld is making a large investment of capital over the next two years as it moves away from its show based attractions and toward marine education…and thrill rides.
