If you’re committed to soaking up everything Magic Kingdom has to offer well into the night, escaping the evening crowds can feel like an art form. The park tends to fill back up after sundown for nighttime events like the Happily Ever After fireworks show or Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away parade. With so much happening after dark, and so many people trying to experience it all at once, the evenings can feel more hectic than magical if you don’t have a plan. A little strategy goes a long way: here are some tips to help you sidestep the crowds and enjoy a more relaxed end to your Magic Kingdom day.
Head to Less Busy Areas of the Park
While everyone is clustered around the more popular attractions, Main Street, and the castle hub, you can seek out quieter spots for a more relaxed evening. As the night goes on, Adventureland tends to empty out a bit. Attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean and The Jungle Cruise often have shorter wait times in the evening, and the ambiance here is calmer at night. One of my favorite quieter places to wander at night is the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. There’s often not more than another family or two climbing at the same time, and you can’t beat those treetop views! It’s nice to take a breather up and away from it all once in a while.
And there’s nothing quite like Tomorrowland at night. The neon, the background music, and the ol’ reliable TTA PeopleMover whirring around after dark. Without the crowds and sun beaming down on the reflective surfaces or the endless pavement, it’s much more peaceful here. There’s rarely a wait for the PeopleMover after dark, start there!
Catch the Fireworks Away from the Masses
Happily Ever After is one of, if not the best, nighttime spectaculars to ever grace the skies over Magic Kingdom. But if that classic vista of fireworks bursting high above Cinderella Castle isn’t that important to you, or you’d prefer to not deal with heavy crowding around you but would still like to see the show, consider watching from a quieter area. There’s not really a bad vantage point to watch the fireworks, especially when Disney pipes in the show’s audio into other lands. Some of my favorite places to watch the fireworks are back in Fantasyland behind the castle walls, in Tomorrowland between Space Mountain and the PeopleMover, and Liberty Square near the Hall of Presidents. These areas are often less busy during fireworks. Plus, you’re close to some attractions to dart into while the waits are low after the show!
Ride Popular Attractions During the Fireworks & Parades
Or, if catching the fireworks isn’t important to you at all, show time is the best time to catch some of your favorite popular rides with little to no wait. During major events like fireworks or parades, many people will flock to the rides or park exit just after the big finale. You can take advantage of the lull in crowd activity to visit some of the park’s best attractions with reduced wait times, including the Haunted Mansion, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Space Mountain.
Watch the Parade Without the Main Street Crush
If catching Disney Starlight is on your list, skip Main Street and the castle hub entirely. While most guests stake out spots there early, the parade route also runs through Liberty Square and Frontierland, where you can often walk up closer to showtime and still snag a comfortable spot. On nights with two performances, the later showing tends to draw noticeably smaller crowds throughout the route as well.
When all else fails… wander! Whether that’s to another resort, your home resort, or discovering a quieter pocket in the park. One of the best parts about visiting Disney’s parks with family and friends is making new memories, and sometimes the best ones happen when we least expect it. Change up the way you go about your Magic Kingdom evening, and try to enjoy some time away from the typical nighttime chaos. Who knows, you might end up with a new family tradition!
