Hey there, Disney fans Down Under. Today is one of those days where being a Disney fan feels just a little bit less magical. Disney has confirmed that DisneyStore.com.au, servicing Australia & New Zealand, and DisneyStore.asia, servicing Singapore & Malaysia, are closing their virtual doors. It is a genuinely sad day for Asian, Australian and New Zealand Disney fans, because while plenty of our big retailers carry official Disney merchandise, DisneyStore.com.au and DisneyStore.asia were virtually the only sites we could reliably shop the latest Disney releases and, most importantly, Disney Parks merchandise without having to actually be standing inside a Disney theme park thousands of miles away.
Whether you were hunting for the latest Loungefly, Disney Parks ears, a limited-edition collection, seasonal merchandise, or one of those releases that somehow never made it to Australian retailers, DisneyStore.com.au became an essential bookmark for Disney fans. It gave us access to that little piece of the Disney shopping experience from home, and losing it leaves a pretty significant hole. According to Disney’s official end-of-business FAQ, the site will accept new orders until September 30th, 2026 at 11:59 pm AEST, or October 1st at 1:59 am NZST, after which the site will no longer accept new orders. Existing orders will continue to be fulfilled, although Disney warns that increased demand could lead to delivery delays.
Now, before anyone points out that we can just order from DisneyStore.com, technically, yes. The US Disney Store does ship to international destinations, but the shipping costs can make that option seriously difficult to justify. For example, a single Minnie Mouse Ear Headband priced at $36.99 USD can attract a whopping $50.70 USD shipping charge to Australia. Want just a simple mug ($19.99)? That will be an additional $40.50 in delivery. That’s before we even factor in the exchange rate, making that supposedly simple pair of ears a very expensive little treat. And if you are thinking, just spend more until you qualify for free shipping, that doesn’t apply to international orders.
You see the problem? Disney has confirmed that this closure does not affect Disney Store operations in other markets, and official Disney merchandise will continue to be available through authorized retailers across Australia and New Zealand. But for those of us who collect, follow new releases, and want access to the same Parks merchandise that is being released overseas, this is a big loss. There is simply no guarantee that the latest Disney Parks collections will turn up through our local retail partners.
So, if you have had something sitting on your DisneyStore.com.au wish list, now is definitely the time to take another look. Disney says sold-out products are not expected to return, and once September 30th rolls around, this particular little corner of the Disney shopping world will be gone. It may only be an online store, but for Disney fans here, it was so much more than that. Its existence validated our fandom from afar and was a little way that we could connect with the magic in a more local way. One can only hope that Disney will revise its international shipping protocol to make shopping from a distance more feasible.
