October is a busy time at Walt Disney World. Not only is the resort celebrating its milestone 55th anniversary starting October 1, but Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is in full swing, and EPCOT Food & Wine Festival crowds are making their way around World Showcase. Before the month is over, we’ll already start seeing the first signs of the holiday season!
But if you have an October trip coming up (which you should — there are some great discounts running for the rest of 2026!), there are a few closures you’ll want to know about before heading to the parks.
There’s several major construction projects underway, including Piston Peak and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom and Tropical Americas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. On top of those long-term projects, a handful of scheduled refurbishments will affect attractions, transportation, and other locations during October. Here’s what’s currently scheduled to close at Walt Disney World next month:
Magic Kingdom
Carousel of Progress – CLOSED for Extended Refurbishment
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress closed back in July for one of the biggest updates in the attraction’s history, and it will remain closed throughout October.
The attraction’s timeline is jumping forward by 60 years, with scenes representing the 1960s, 1980s, turn of the millennium in 1999, and a possible future. The refreshed attraction will also introduce a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic during the opening.
Disney currently plans to reopen Carousel of Progress in spring 2027.
Walt Disney World Railroad – CLOSED Through Most of October
No train shortcuts here! The Walt Disney World Railroad closed on September 28 for refurbishment and currently has an October 30 reopening date on the Walt Disney World calendar.
When the Railroad returns, it will continue operating in its modified “shuttle mode” between Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland. Frontierland Station remains unavailable as major construction continues nearby for Piston Peak and the future Villains Land.
EPCOT
La Signature – CLOSED
Over in EPCOT’s France pavilion, La Signature is closed for refurbishment. The shop, known for its selection of Guerlain fragrances, cosmetics, and beauty products, closed in June 2026. The Walt Disney World calendar currently keeps the location closed beyond October 31, with reopening expected sometime later in 2026.
In the meantime, those looking for Guerlain products can find a selection nearby at Plume Et Palette.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Good news for Hollywood Studios visitors: there aren’t currently any major scheduled attraction refurbishments on the October calendar!
The Magic of Disney Animation opened on September 14, bringing the former Animation Courtyard space back to life with character experiences, drawing activities, an indoor playground, and more. And construction work continues on Monstropolis, replacing Muppet*Vision 3D and surrounding Muppets/Grand Avenue areas.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom also has no additional scheduled attraction refurbishments for October at the moment.
However, a huge section of the park remains unavailable as construction continues on Tropical Americas, which will replace the former DinoLand U.S.A. area.
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon
If a water park day is part of your October vacation plans, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon remains closed for its annual refurbishment throughout the month. Disney’s Blizzard Beach is currently open for the season.
