Opening Date: Not announced yet
During the 2024 D23 Expo, Billy Crystal, the actor who voiced James P. Sullivan (Sulley), helped make the exciting announcement that an entire land based on Monstropolis from Monsters, Inc., was coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios. For the first time, humans will have the opportunity to tour the Laugh Factory and zoom through the door vault on the first-ever suspended roller coaster in a Disney theme park!

Picking up after the events of Pixar Animation Studios’ beloved film, humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. – and the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly. But it’s not a true visit without the factory itself. You’ll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski – via a door!
Yes, a door. If you’ve been dreaming of riding through the door vault since the movie was released in 2001, you’re not alone – Josh D'Amaro, now President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company – has been thinking about this, too. "The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley. You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride."
The coaster will put you right in the middle of the monster action. Just be sure to fill out your paperwork! Roz is always watching…

Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios isn’t just a new land. It’s built around a very specific moment in the Monsters, Inc. story. For years, the city ran on scream power, with humans seen as dangerous and completely off-limits. That all changed when Sulley and Mike discovered that laughter was far more powerful than fear, shifting the entire energy system and how monsters viewed the human world.

Guests will step into Monstropolis during H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice.” This marks the first time humans have been officially welcomed into the city, thanks to the newly formed Department of Human Relations. The event celebrates this turning point, inviting guests to experience a city that’s learning to embrace curiosity instead of fear.

As you explore, you’ll move through familiar locations and monster-run businesses, with details pulled straight from the films. Confirmed spots include Harryhausen’s, along with references to the Glob Theater, and a new major attraction centered around the iconic door factory. The entire land is designed to feel like you’ve arrived at the exact moment Monstropolis opens its doors to the human world.
