Nobody wants rain during a Walt Disney World vacation, but it’s especially frustrating when you’ve paid extra for a holiday party. Between the exclusive entertainment, character experiences, and festive atmosphere, there’s a lot to look forward to at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Disney Jollywood Nights. Unfortunately, Florida weather doesn’t always cooperate, and Disney has now added official inclement weather guides for both events to the My Disney Experience app.
The new guides have sparked a conversation among DISboards members, with some wondering whether Disney is simply helping guests prepare for bad weather or trying to get ahead of refund requests when expensive holiday parties don’t go as planned.
What Disney’s Official Holiday Party Weather Guides Say
Both guides make one thing clear: The holiday parties will generally continue even when the weather is bad. However, the guidance for each event is noticeably different, particularly when it comes to entertainment and character experiences.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
Disney’s guide states:
“Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will continue in the event of most inclement weather.”
Disney warns that some Magic Kingdom attractions may not operate during bad weather and encourages guests to check the attraction map for available experiences and wait times. Guests can also ask cast members about possible disruptions to attractions and entertainment.
The guide doesn’t identify specific parades, fireworks, or stage shows that could be canceled, but instead offers suggestions for enjoying the evening if the weather turns. Holiday treat locations will remain available for cookies and festive beverages, and guests can visit quick-service restaurants or head inside the Emporium to shop while staying dry.
Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party takes place on select nights from November 8 through December 22, 2026.

Disney Jollywood Nights
The Jollywood Nights guide is considerably more detailed. It begins with the same general policy:
“Disney Jollywood Nights will continue in the event of most inclement weather.”
However, Disney specifically warns that some or all performances of Glisten! and Twilight Soirée at the Tip Top Club may be canceled during inclement weather.
If that happens, Disney says midnight showings of Disney Holidays in Hollywood will be added, along with additional characters at The Magic of Disney Animation. The guide also states that What’s This? Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along will continue as scheduled, while Sunset Seasons Greetings and Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! may still be offered.
Disney has also outlined where guests can find characters when outdoor meet-and-greets need to move inside. Those locations include:
- Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular: Chip ‘n’ Dale from Rescue Rangers, Baloo or King Louie from TaleSpin, Max as Powerline, and Phineas and Ferb.
- ABC Commissary: José Carioca or Panchito from The Three Caballeros.
- Near First Order Cargo: The Mandalorian and Grogu.
- Near Toy Story Mania!: Bo Peep and Sarge.
- Near Roundup Rodeo BBQ: Partysaurus Rex.
- Throughout Pixar Plaza: Bing Bong, Joy, Sadness, Mike Wazowski, George Sanderson, and Needleman.
- The Edna Mode Experience: Edna Mode and Frozone.
- The Magic of Disney Animation: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Pluto.
Disney also lists several characters who will continue appearing at their regular party locations, including Chewbacca near Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Santa Stitch at Celebrity Spotlight, Scrooge McDuck near BaseLine Tap House, and Santa Duffy at Walt Disney Presents.
Select dining locations will remain open during bad weather, giving guests somewhere to enjoy holiday snacks and beverages while waiting for the rain to pass.
Disney Jollywood Nights takes place on select evenings from November 7, 2026, through January 5, 2027.
Interestingly, neither guide shown in My Disney Experience mentions refunds or complimentary tickets if weather disrupts the events. That omission is part of what makes the discussion on the DISboards so interesting.

Are the New Guides About Preparing Guests or Avoiding Refunds?
DISboards member gottalovepluto started the conversation after noticing the new guidance, particularly how much more detailed the Jollywood Nights information was compared to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Other members wondered whether Disney was responding to previous weather-related complaints. Dreamerlily suggested that rain affecting Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party earlier this year might have influenced the decision, while others questioned whether Disney was anticipating an unusually wet holiday season.
Of course, these are simply theories from Disney fans. Disney hasn’t explained why it introduced the guides, and there’s no indication that the company has changed its refund policies.
Still, the timing has guests talking, especially those who have experienced a holiday party where the weather prevented them from enjoying much of the entertainment.
When Rain Changes the Entire Party Experience
DISboards member Bethislucy recalled attending Jollywood Nights last year when heavy rain made the evening difficult. Finding somewhere to enjoy the food was a challenge, outdoor character meet-and-greets were affected, and the ice-skating show couldn’t take place. They believed Disney refunded many tickets that evening, although the discussion doesn’t establish how widespread that compensation was.
Another member, msmayor, shared a different experience after attending both Jollywood Nights and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party during a rainy weekend last December. Despite the weather, their family arrived prepared and still enjoyed holiday snacks, decorations, and attractions, even though some entertainment was unavailable or relocated.
What made their experience particularly interesting was Disney’s response. Although they hadn’t requested compensation, Disney unexpectedly offered them a one-day Park Hopper ticket after their rain-affected Christmas party.
It’s a nice example of Disney trying to make things right, but it doesn’t mean guests should expect the same offer during future events. Disney’s newly published weather guides don’t promise that kind of compensation.
Should Holiday Party Tickets Be Treated Differently?
One of the more interesting points in the discussion came from Tatebeck, who argued that separately ticketed holiday parties aren’t quite the same as regular theme park admission.
When you’re visiting Walt Disney World with a multi-day ticket, you may have some flexibility to rearrange your plans around the weather. A holiday party ticket, on the other hand, is tied to a specific evening. If rain cancels the parade, outdoor entertainment, and character experiences, there’s no opportunity to return the following night using that same ticket.
Tatebeck felt Disney should consider refunds or complimentary admission when extreme weather significantly disrupts an event. It’s an understandable position, particularly for families who have spent hundreds of dollars on tickets specifically to enjoy entertainment they can’t experience during a regular park day.
Not everyone agreed that refunds should be expected, though. DISboards member japanese maple pointed out that guests purchasing tickets should understand the possibility of rain and suggested there’s a meaningful difference between losing one parade and experiencing severe weather that prevents nearly everything from operating.
That’s probably where the debate gets most complicated. A passing shower that cancels one performance isn’t necessarily the same as an evening when nearly all the exclusive entertainment becomes unavailable. But who decides when enough has been canceled to justify compensation?
What Guests Should Know Before Attending
I appreciate that Disney is giving guests more information about what to expect when the weather doesn’t cooperate, especially at Jollywood Nights. Knowing which performances might be canceled and where characters could relocate is genuinely useful when you’re trying to make the most of a limited event.
The difference between the two guides is interesting, though. Jollywood Nights guests receive a fairly specific plan for entertainment changes, while the Christmas party guide focuses more on finding available attractions, snacks, and indoor shopping. Neither addresses the question many guests are likely to have when significant portions of the party are canceled: What happens to the money they spent on tickets?
For now, the best advice is we can offer is to check the forecast, bring rain gear, and review the official weather guidance in My Disney Experience before heading to either event. If the weather looks questionable, prioritize the outdoor entertainment that’s most important to your family while it’s available.
What do you think? Should Disney offer refunds or complimentary tickets when bad weather significantly affects Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party or Jollywood Nights? Or is unpredictable Florida weather simply part of the risk of purchasing a special event ticket?
