In what is becoming the norm for Disney, an announcement has been made about Pinocchio being remade as a live-action film. Peter Hedges is writing the adaptation, based on the story of the wooden puppet who becomes a real boy. Carlo Collodi wrote the original Pinocchio story, The Adventures of Pinocchio, in 1883.
Guillermo del Toro is also working on a version of Pinocchio, though much darker than the Disney version will likely be. del Toro co-wrote the script with Matthew Robbins and is planning his film to be a stop-motion animated 3D version.
Other upcoming animated-to-live-action films Disney has already announced include: Beauty and the Beast, The Jungle Book, Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh and Mulan.
