SeaWorld Orlando’s 39-Year Old Walrus Bruiser Has Passed Away

On Wednesday afternoon, SeaWorld Orlando announced that their 39-year old walrus named Bruiser passed away due to kidney failure among other health issues. The walrus had been under the care of the SeaWorld veterinary and animal-care teams around the clock for the past several weeks due to his declining health.

Bruiser had lived at SeaWorld for twenty years and was considered ‘old’ at 39 as most walruses, according to SeaWorld, live to be around 40.

Bruiser was one of six walruses who participated in the ‘Clyde & Seamore’ sea lion show.

Below is an excerpt of the quote from SeaWorld’s Facebook page:

“While this is a difficult time for the entire SeaWorld family, we will celebrate the full life Bruiser lived, and the impact he had on all of us at SeaWorld, and those all over the world. We know that Bruiser will be remembered for the millions of guests he inspired to learn and care about walruses, and by the team members that had the honor of working with him.”
