Second Best Opening Weekend Ever for ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’

The latest installment in the saga, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, had an incredible opening weekend, premiering on 4,232 screens in North America and topping $220 million at the box office domestically, which puts it in second place for the highest opening weekend of all time.

The Last Jedi couldn’t match the record holder, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which hit $248 million during its opening weekend in 2015.

For its opening day on Friday (including Thursday night), The Last Jedi sold $104.8 million in tickets, also the second-best ever. Saturday came in with $64 million and Sunday was projected at $51.3 million. Worldwide, the film topped $450 million for its opening weekend.

Fox’s Ferdinand finished in second place for the weekend with just $13.3 million domestically.
