Earlier this year, the new Digital Key feature was rolled out within the My Disney Experience app allowing guests at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge to unlock their Resort hotel room doors using Bluetooth.
The Digital Key feature adds convenience and flexibility to a Disney Resort hotel stay giving guests a backup option in the event that they lock themselves out of their room. Additionally, the feature has been designed with a Disney touch, and guests who listen closely can hear the sound of Pixie Dust filling the air as the hotel room door opens.
The Digital Key can also be used to unlock the hotel entrance gate and common area doors which require a key such as fitness centers, elevators, and club level lounges. Guests who have checked in online can also use their Digital Key to skip the front desk, similar to what they are able to do with the MagicBand.
All guests staying in the same room who have a My Disney Experience account can elect to opt-in and activate the feature on their check-in day through a short set-up process within the app. To enter their room, guests will simply tap the “Unlock Door” button and then hold their phone against the door lock.
Guests are able to choose to use either or both options for room entry throughout their trip, but it’s important that they wear their MagicBand for all other uses, including park entry, FastPass+ redemption, linking Disney PhotoPass images, and more.
