A Haitian security officer at Walt Disney World won a civil lawsuit against the company, claiming she was passed over for promotions because of her nationality.
Camelia Joseph has worked for Disney for 20 years and claims she applied for promotions at least seven times, but was never granted the jobs. She said she was passed over for the promotions and higher salaries in favor of employees who were less qualified.
Joseph is one of six employees from the security department to make a discrimination claim in the past few years. Disney denies any wrongdoing.
The judge ruled that Joseph was discriminated against based on her nationality.
Disney issued a statement: “We have a longstanding policy against workplace discrimination and believe none occurred here. We are pleased the jury awarded no damages.”
