Disney and Macy’s are celebrating a pretty impressive holiday milestone this year, and they’re doing it with plenty of Mickey Mouse, Disney nostalgia, and even a little Spider-Man.
The new Disney and Macy’s Holiday Collection launches online at Macy’s on October 7, followed by its arrival in Macy’s stores nationwide beginning October 13. The collection celebrates the 100th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Disney’s long history with the iconic New York City tradition.
The celebration actually began in August with the debut of the new Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey giant character balloon and an accompanying merchandise collection. Now, Disney and Macy’s are expanding the assortment with three additional collections that dig even deeper into Disney’s long history with the parade.
Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey
The celebration actually began back in August with a Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey collection, timed to the debut of the new Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey giant character balloon. With plenty of merchandise included in that first release, we’re giving this one its own spotlight alongside the three collections arriving for the centennial celebration.
The assortment leans heavily into Mickey’s unforgettable appearance in Fantasia, with that iconic blue sorcerer’s hat showing up everywhere. Among the pieces are a Sorcerer’s Apprentice magic show set with Mickey’s hat and more than 175 magic tricks, a wonderfully over-the-top Sorcerer Mickey play tent, a hard-covered book, pajamas, kids’ apparel, and a cape and sorcerer’s hat set.
Loungefly gets in on the fun too, with a Sorcerer Mickey mini backpack, coordinating ears, and other accessories. It’s a playful collection, but there’s enough nostalgia packed into these pieces that quite a few of them feel aimed just as squarely at grown-up Disney fans as they do at kids.
Disney Balloons Through the Years
The “Balloons Through the Years” collection goes all the way back to Mickey Mouse’s first flight over Manhattan in 1934. Archival-inspired artwork features Mickey, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Buzz Lightyear, Spider-Man, and other characters that have appeared in balloon form over the years.
Look for family jackets from Isaac Morris, Mickey & Friends balloon denim, Loungefly mini backpacks, ear headbands, pins, Hallmark ornaments, Crocs accessories, sleepwear, and more.
Mickey & Friends March to Macy’s
Our favorite of the three concepts might be “March to Macy’s,” which follows Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto through Manhattan on their way to the parade. The artwork takes its cues from vintage 1930s comic strips, giving the collection a wonderfully old-school Disney look.
Merchandise includes puffer jackets, hoodies, commemorative canvas totes, a snow globe, journals, and character dolls from Jakks Pacific.
Spider-Man Takes on the Sinister Six
Marvel fans aren’t being left out. “Marvel’s Spider-Man and the Sinister Six” celebrates Spider-Man’s own Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade history, which began with his balloon debut in 1987.
The collection includes bomber jackets for adults and kids, sweatshirts, graphic tees, enamel pins, figurines, a collectible skateboard, and more, all featuring bold comic-inspired artwork.
