Behind the Scenes of ‘The Boy & The Octopus’

We are launching into Behind the Scenes Sunday, and even though this will be a short and sweet one, it’s something that I absolutely love. Hopefully, you caught the new Disney Holiday Short: The Boy and The Octopus when we shared it a few weeks ago. There was something about this one that hit me in the feels. Partly because of the obvious emotional connection between these two unlikely friends and partly because there was a simplicity in it that moved past the traditional themes of family at this time of year, touching on the idea that companionship can be found anywhere you want to look for it.

In this featurette, director Taika Waititi talks about the meaning behind the film in a way that felt too special not to share. The New Zealand actor, comedian, and filmmaker shares a look behind the scenes of The Boy & the Octopus below:

Now, if you haven’t seen the final product, we are going to add it here as well. Admittedly, I’ve watched this short at least ten times at this point and still enjoy the journey just as much as the first time only weeks ago. Take a look:

Did you love this one as much as I did? Let me know in the comments below. Perhaps the opening scene spoke to the beach girl in me who spends the holidays in the heat of Australian summer, but I think that the joy and wonder in this Disney Short reaches a little further than that. Let me know; is it just me?
