It’s Behind the Scenes Sunday, and as I search for things to share with you, I’m faced with one glaring disappointment. There has not been an updated episode of Disney Parks ‘We Call It Imagineering‘ in months. It’s a series that I fell in love with from the moment the concept was announced. A look behind the curtain at the magic of Disney storytelling and the inner workings of the creative teams I admire so much. Perfect, right? The first episode, We Call It Imagineering | Audio-Animatronics®, debuted six months ago and gave us an advanced look at some of the characters and technology that we could look forward to seeing in the then-upcoming attraction opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. If you missed it, you can check it out below before we continue.
See what I mean? Just under 14 minutes of solid Disney excitement as we see the real genius behind the creations we love. Fast-forward two months, and episode two arrived in our YouTube subscriber lists. ‘We Call It Imagineering | Soundscapes’ gave us new insight into the music that enhances our Disney experience and how it has been created for entertainment and attractions. Also, great! Well, that was until the series went dark. While the new channel has been updated here and there with a few smaller featurette-style additions, the We Call It Imagineering series has gone quiet. It’s been four months since we have seen a teaser, trailer, or whisper of a new episode, and I, for one, am a bit sad. It makes me wonder if the series wasn’t that popular. It simply can’t be that Disney has run out of Imagineering feats to dissect with us. There are so many aspects of Disney’s history in the parks and entertainment industry that we would love to uncover the inside scoop on, and yet this intriguing series is now nowhere to be seen. This Behind-the-Scenes Sunday, I’m asking where this series went and if you, our DIS community, are missing it as much as I am.
In lieu of our usual BtS sesh, I wanted to share with you this adorable throwback clip from ten years ago, when 140 Disney characters joined together from the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World to show their #DisneySide for a clever photography session. Something about this little clip has always stayed with me, making me smile to see all my favorite smiling Disney characters in one shoot like this. When you think about it, it’s rather a rare sight.
