We at the DIS, like many other sites, have criticized Disney before on the amount of crappy merchandise littered around the parks that is uninspired and usually just shows what year it is with some characters on it. Then the Marketplace Co-Op opened and a lot of very cool attraction-specific merchandise started to emerge. The Twenty Eight and Main collection was launched and continued Disney’s push for more unique merchandise. Now, the YesterEars store is here and is some of the coolest stuff I’ve seen from Disney so far.
YesterEars – A Vintage Collection by Disney Parks will be limited releases ONLY available online at DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents, similar to how they’ve been selling most of their best merchandise over the past two years. Three unique YesterEars shirts will be available to purchase from August 18-25, 2016 and more will come over the next three months.
One of the shirts features Dreamfinder and Figment from Journey Into Imagination. The story behind this is that Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager and writer for Disney Parks Blog, joked about having a recreation of the shirt he was wearing on a Walt Disney World trip in July 1983 and they actually recreated it. Figment fans rejoice.
Another shirt has artwork from the Walt Disney World Preview Center that will blow many people away. Even if you weren’t lucky enough to be alive when the Preview Center was open from January 10, 1970 to September 30, 1971, this shirt is still worth picking up. It is delightfully retro, and where else will you find a shirt that features Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Donald Duck, Goofy, Winnie the Pooh, Br’er Bear, King Louie and the White Rabbit?
Alien Encounter fans are even getting lucky. No, we still have to put up with Stitch’s Great Escape, but we can now wear an X-S Tech shirt to help ease the pain of having to sit through one of the worst attractions ever that replaced one of the best.
Again, the first wave of three shirts will be available from August 18-25, 2016 and can be found at DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents!
