Alright, friends! We talk a lot about Disney merchandise together in this community. How could we not? There are so many fun and unique items to bring home from your Disney Parks adventures. From special event apparel to long-running collectibles, Disney has our attention when it comes to introducing new merchandise for us to invest in. However, lately, as my collection grows and my house doesn’t have enough space to store it all, I’m wondering exactly when this hobby-turned-obsession starts to cross the line into unhealthy. After some soul-searching, I’ve identified seven signs that may help you self-analyze your Disney spending habits.
1. You’ve Run Out of Wall Space and Keep Buying Wall Art Anyway
When you start debating whether to hang your framed limited-edition park map over the windows, it might be a sign. Even the best of us love the adorable 3D photo frames and exquisite Disney Art, but that doesn’t mean you have any more space materializing to display it. If you have more wall art than wall, you might need to consider pulling back.
2. You’ve Ever Said, “But This Loungefly Is a Different Shade of Pink.”
Color me guilty! If you’re defending your sixth Minnie backpack with a color wheel and a spreadsheet, your habit might be headed into extreme territory. I’m a lover of Disney accessories, and while I can always find a way to justify one more, there needs to be an application for each one. My Loungeflys all have a purpose, even if that purpose is just to make me happy.
3. You Own More Spirit Jerseys Than Actual Spirit
Your closet looks like a pastel parade, and you haven’t seen your non-Disney clothes since 2021. Is it comfy? Yes. Is it a problem? Possibly. Spirit Jerseys are one of the least flattering clothing options on my body, and yet, I can’t help but acquire a new one on every trip. Something about that metallic DISNEYLAND sprawled across my back just feels like I need it. Plus, I am not confronted with seeing all of them lined up together in excess until I get home.
4. You’ve Got a Separate Budget Just for Merch, And It’s Bigger Than Your Grocery Bill
If you’re living off instant noodles but proudly displaying your Disney Dooney & Bourke collection, it might be time for a reset. I’m all for sacrificing for the things we love, but there is a line where your merch obsession might be controlling you, and this is it.

5. You’ve Staged Your Shelves Like It’s a Mini Disney Store
You’re not just displaying souvenirs, you’re curating an experience. Guests might as well be handed shopping baskets, and soft music plays when they enter your living room, because it feels like the ultimate shopping experience. You might have even gone a step further and collected all your merch in mini format with a Mini Brands Disney Store as well. (Side note: Why won’t the shelves stay upright and in place! Okay, maybe I’ve given myself away as being guilty of this one, too.)
6. You’ve Ever Hidden a Purchase from Your Family (or Yourself)
Have you ever gone a step too far in your spending spree and felt like you needed to hide something from the people you love? Or maybe you’ve inadvertently hidden something from yourself. Unpacking one of your new items after a trip to the parks, you say, “Oh, yeah!” having forgotten entirely that you have bought something until it was back in your hands.
7. You’ve Bought Something You Didn’t Even Love, Just Because It Had Mickey On It
That sequined sweater that itches, the mug is too small, and the T-shirt is completely not your color, but would look good on someone else. Sound familiar? All of our merchandise purchases should scream ‘must-have!’, but when we can’t find the perfect item in sight, the need to buy something often steers us toward the cash register anyway, just because it had a Mickey silhouette on it.
If you identified with some of the points on this list, it might be time to find a support group. You’ll likely see me there because I am definitely guilty of a few of these! Has your Disney merch obsession gone too far?
