Did you know that there’s a Motel 6 in Anaheim near the Disneyland Resort? I’ve stayed at many a Motel 6 in my day, but never the one near Disneyland, so I decided to check it out.
This is not your typical roadside Motel 6 that welcomes travelers traveling cross-country. This is a 240-room 3 and 4 story motel with four wings surrounding a courtyard. That said, you’ll see from the rooms, that this is still a Motel 6 with the amenities you would expect.
Surprisingly enough, the Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate IS a Good Neighbor Hotel, one of the nearly 60 area hotels that Disney has partnered with.
The Disneyland Resort is surrounded by locally owned and chain non-Disney eateries, lodging and more, so sometimes there are some great options (and values) to be had just outside of the gates. When it comes to hotels, Disney has their Good Neighbor Hotels, including the Motel 6, that can be included with your tickets as part of a Disneyland Resort Good Neighbor Hotel Vacation Package.
If you’re looking for a value hotel in the Disneyland area, this might be what you’re looking for. Let’s take a look inside.
The 2 queen beds are what you would expect from Motel 6…clean and comfortable, but basic. Rooms with a single queen bed are also available.
While there are no drawers in the room, there are plenty of open shelves to unpack if you choose. There is also a desk, television, coffee maker, and refrigerator.
My biggest disappointment with the room is that the is no secure division between the bedroom area and the bathroom. Most hotels will have the sink area open to the rest of the room, with the toilet and shower behind a lockable door.
Here, there is a small (not full-size) double door that shuts but doesn’t lock and is located between the bedroom and the bath. There is also no division between the sink area and the toilet.
In the center of the bath area is a sink with a nice counter area.
To the right is some suitcase storage, hanging storage, and an iron and ironing board.
To the left is the toilet and shower area.
In the center courtyard, the Motel 6 Anaheim Maingate has a heated pool and hot tub, along with shaded seating.
There is additional outdoor seating outside the pool area.
Apart from vending machines and coffee in the lobby, there is no food or drink available. The property, however, is within walking distance of a 7-Eleven and Anaheim Gardenwalk, which features several mid-range and high-end restaurants, including The Cheesecake Factory and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
Motel 6 is about 1/2 mile from the Disneyland Resort, so it is walkable. For families that aren’t able to make the walk, or folks like me that choose not to make the walk, Anaheim Regional Transportation (ART) picks up at the Candlewood Suites next door for a nominal fee.
I understand that Motel 6 is not for everyone, but if you’re like me and just use your hotel to lay your head down for a few hours each day, it might be something to keep in mind. It may even leave you room in the budget for more churros…and that’s always a good thing.
