The Disneyland Resort’s annual Lunar New Year celebration kicked off this weekend at Disney California Adventure. The month-long event features themed entertainment, food, characters, merchandise, and more. Opening weekend was popular and lines for some of the food and entertainment were long, but we were able to grab some highlights to share with you.
Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession was presented several times each day. The lively cavalcade features Mulan and Mushu, plus a variety of performers in beautiful costumes. Chip & Dale even join in on the fun.
Other entertainment offerings include Hurry Home-A Lunar New Year Celebration Water Short, which is presented prior to World of Color-One. Some days, you’ll also find live music at both Sonoma Terrace and the Paradise Gardens Bandstand.
In addition to catching them in the Procession, you can find Mushu and Mulan in Paradise Gardens, where they’ll pose for pictures and sign autographs. You might also be able to see Goofy or Mickey and Minnie.
Around the corner from The Little Mermaid-Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, you’ll discover Meilin and Ming Lee from Pixar’s Turning Red.
In several locations throughout the park, you can grab special Lunar New Year Celebration merchandise. This year’s spirit jersey seemed to be popular with guests this weekend!
There are some free activities to keep an eye out for as well, including crafts, calligraphy artists, and the Lunar New Year Wishing Wall, where you can add your thoughts and wishes for 2025.
Finally, a Disney special event wouldn’t be complete without themed food and there is plenty of that to be had! In addition to six Festival Marketplaces, there’s a special Asian-inspired menu at Paradise Garden Grill, plus special items at restaurants and carts throughout California Adventure.
Here are a couple of my favorite items, the Chocolate Firecracker and the Spicy Gochujang Chicken Taco. I’ll share more about my food adventures at Lunar New Year soon.
What’s your favorite thing about the festivals that Disney brings to the parks? Is it the merchandise, special entertainment, unique character meets, or special food items? Whatever your answer, you’ll find plenty of each to enjoy at the Lunar New Year Celebration now through February 16th at Disney California Adventure.
