Close your eyes and imagine, if you will, that wonderful smell of freshly popped popcorn that wafts through the air as you enter Magic Kingdom Park and walk down Main Street, U.S.A. I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like the popcorn at Disney tastes better than any popcorn I’ve had anywhere else. Maybe it’s magical popcorn, who knows? All I know is that it’s always hot, fresh, and perfectly delicious whenever I’ve purchased it. Just ask this little cutie!
Since today is National Popcorn Day, we thought we’d share some fun facts about the popcorn and popcorn buckets you can find at Disneyland Park and at Walt Disney World.
Did you know that 5 million bags of popcorn are served each year at Walt Disney World? That’s about 322,000 pounds of unpopped popcorn kernels! Disney popcorn is not only delicious, but it’s vegan and gluten-free too. The popcorn at Disney is popped using a combination of coconut, corn, and canola oils, and is seasoned with kosher salt.
If you’re not a fan of eating popcorn (which we can’t imagine unless you can’t because you have braces) and would rather wear it, check out this super cute Mouse Ear hat.
The popcorn buckets for sale at Disney Parks are pretty fabulous too. Our own Kathy Werling shares a fun photo with her Cinderella Coach popcorn bucket!
Check out this Dumbo one – SO adorable!
There are so many different popcorn buckets available and the inventory seems to change all the time because of how popular they are. Be sure to glance over at all the popcorn carts you walk by in the parks, because you might just see one that you’ve never seen before.
You can also find locations throughout the parks where popcorn is being flavored as you watch. Fresh Caramel Corn is made all day back in Storybook Circus and if you’ve never tried it, you should. It’s incredible!
Have you ever noticed the “Popcorn People” at Disneyland Park? The Popcorn People are little clown dolls that are attached to the handle of the popcorn carts throughout the park and it appears that they are helping to make the popcorn. Over the years, the clowns have transformed to match the land in which they perform. Here’s a short video with a look at quite a few of them.
We also think that you’ll get a kick out of this ‘How They’re Made’ video where Ryno Clavin had the opportunity to interview Karlos Siqueiros, the Food & Beverage Concept Development Manager for Disney. In this video, you’ll find out how the development process works from conception to completion on the Mickey balloon popcorn buckets.
