I have a feeling that something unusual is coming to the Disneyland Resort in 2019. It’s something that we haven’t seen in a very, very long time. It’s a little something I like to call: off-season.
I know…you’re as surprised as I am, but hear me out.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens next summer at Disneyland Park, but until then, it appears that the powers that be are concerned about attendance numbers for early 2019.
First, I submit to you the quickly thrown together Get Your Ears On-A Mickey and Minnie Celebration. I assume it was “quickly thrown together” because it’s celebrating the 90th birthday of the famous mice…which already happened. Typically, Disney anniversary celebrations start months before the actual day, then continue up to a year after. This one is starting two months after the 90th celebration and only lasting a few months.
Add to that the new nighttime show, Mickey’s Mix Magic, will be presented most nights WITHOUT fireworks! You have to keep the spending down if attendance is down.
The biggest proof of attendance concerns, however, is the recently announced discount ticket offer that is good from early January until late May. We sometimes see Southern California resident ticket discounts during this time period, but it has been many years since we’ve seen an across-the-board discount like this.
What this means to you is that after the holidays and until Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens, the Disneyland Resort will be trying very hard to get you in the parks, so keep an eye for even more special offerings and events. I’m guessing we’ll even see some special events for Annual Passholders to get them in the parks to spend money on food and merchandise.
The bottom line is that the parks should be less busy in early 2019, so take advantage of the ticket and hotel discount offers and enjoy the last “off-season” we will see for a very long time.
