I’m a bit of an overachiever when it comes to the holidays. I will celebrate just about anything if it means getting the family together and spreading some goodwill, but Christmas is my jam; that’s where all of my otherwise useless powers seem to come together to be able to make something special. The downside is that for the rest of the year, I’m rather subpar by comparison. However, that is a problem for next year because right now, my friends, we are entering my time to shine. Everything in my house will be decorated just so, and I’ve already spent weeks on my gift lists and main event menu for Christmas Day. It’s a whole thing. Where I struggle is when it comes to the years when we decide to travel around this time of year and bring all of that magic along with me. Luckily for you, after years of making all of the mistakes and doing it the hard way, I’ve got one unbeatable tip for you to bring some Christmas cheer from home to your hotel room these holidays.

When I think about how I want my Christmas to be, it starts with my family. It doesn’t matter where we are or what we do later in the day; it all starts with my little family of four. Then, I think about the setting. When we travel to Disney for the holidays, the rooms, while perfectly themed in all the Disney styles we love, are missing all of the festive decor we would enjoy at home. While I can live without most of it, there is one thing that a Christmas wouldn’t be complete without—a Christmas Tree.

I know it’s hard to get into a hotel room. You can’t have a real one for obvious reasons, and though I am no stranger to an artificial tree (thanks to Australian Christmases that occur over our summer), that is a less-than-practical solution. When traveling domestically, I like to take my little pop-up tree, which is decorated and lit, within 60 seconds of unzipping the bag. Though compact and convenient, this option doesn’t work well if you use air travel to reach your destination. Which brings me to my ultimate Christmas resort room hack. A balloon tree.

Yes, this one is tried and tested; it’s by far the best holiday hack I’ve ever devised. A balloon in a 3D-shaped Christmas tree adds color, fun, and excitement to your space while being virtually weightless. Inflated on arrival, the balloon takes up no room in your baggage and can be let down and discarded with minimal waste when finished. I surprised the family with this one last year, and it was a hit.

What makes it even better is that it’s also cheap! See the one that I use below on Amazon:

What could be better than a high-impact, in-room decoration that is cheap, lightweight, easy, and brings all the holiday cheer you are looking for on Christmas morning?
