After much anticipation, the gingerbread Spaceship Earth has arrived to CommuniCore Hall for this year’s International Festival of the Holidays at EPCOT! And just like the real geodesic dome we all adore, the gingerbread version lights up to a music show. If you’re visiting EPCOT this holiday season, you can’t miss it!
Here’s some gingerbread Spaceship Earth fast facts:
- Measures in at 8 feet tall
- Made with 100 eggs, 100 pounds of royal icing, 240 pounds of dough
- It took the baking team over 160 hours to assemble the 1300 triangle pieces (this is only 11% of the tiles that make up the real Spaceship Earth!)
- Nearby, you can pick up one of the triangle gingerbread cookies that make up the display, as they’re sold at the “Experimental Prototype Cookies of Tomorrow” counter within CommuniCore Hall
- 11 “hidden” Mickeys can be found, each representing one of the World Showcase pavilions
After a “Celebration Countdown” (presented by CITIZEN), the gingerbread Spaceship Earth illuminates with a small show set to retro-sounding EPCOT holiday music, just like the real version of Spaceship Earth! The little performance happens every 10 minutes.
Surprisingly, there’s no gingerbread Spaceship Earth merchandise. Say it isn’t so, am I right? Even this year’s EPCOT gingerbread pin features the gingerbread Capitol Building from years past, along with Olaf. I’m sure we’d all love a ginger-desic dome t-shirt or magnet. Imagine the scratch and sniff possibilities… Here’s hoping for a fun 2025 holiday collection!
The EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays runs from November 29th through December 30th, 2024. Don’t miss this neat “edible” recreation of Spaceship Earth!
