Continuing our Best First Rides for Kids series, we like to put ourselves in the shoes of first-time families out there who are making their inaugural trip to the Disney theme parks and looking to create those first memories that dreams are made of. We’ve already covered the Walt Disney World theme parks and Disney’s California Adventure Park in Anaheim. Now, we are going to round out the list with our top five attractions in Disneyland Park that will gently welcome your kids into the arms of Disney.
Dumbo the Flying Elephant
It’s a classic for a reason, my friends. Though this attraction might be smaller than its East-Coast counterpart, Dumbo the Flying Elephant is a staple Disney experience and one that has been a part of Disneyland Park since 1955. Let your kids soar through the air in their own elephant and take control of their flight path thanks to the controller inside the ride vehicle. This attraction is perfect for all ages and has all the atmosphere of the surrounding Fantasyland to kick off your day.
“it’s a small world”
It’s an attraction that many think of first when Disney Park attractions are brought up in conversation. That’s because of its history with Walt Disney and the distinctive style of Mary Blair throughout its interior. Kids will love this slow-moving boat ride, with dolls singing and dancing, representing different areas and cultures from around the world. Being one of the longer attractions, it’s a good indoor escape from any challenging weather as well!
Mickey’s Toontown
Rather than a single attraction, kids can enjoy the whole area of Mickey’s Toontown, which was recently reimagined to include more activities and a more dedicated focus on inclusivity. Here, you will find Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Chip ‘N’ Dale’s GADGETcoaster, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, not to mention more walk-through attractions, meet & greet opportunities, and so much more!
Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
Join everyone’s favorite Space Ranger, Buzz Lightyear, on a mission you won’t want to miss. Board your vehicle and go on a journey into space where Buzz needs your help to defeat Zurg. Use laser pointers to hit targets and see who can get the most points before your mission comes to an end. Kids will enjoy the familiarity of the characters on this one, as well as the slow movement that allows them time to focus on the task. If your child doesn’t like darker rides, circle back to this one later in the day when they are more comfortable.
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
What better way to start your Disney day than with our old friends Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Rabbit? The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is a fun attraction in Critter Country that tours you through the 100-acre woods in your personal honeypot! Familiar characters and a bright, fun world to explore make this one a great start for kids looking to emotionally connect with their first rides.
