The Disneyland Challenge Checklist

disneyland

We are always told to take time to notice the details when we are in the Disney parks. They enhance the visit. They are what put the magic in the memories and they are hidden in every corner. Hidden is the key word though. These details and experiences are easily overlooked.  And without a bit of background knowledge, you might never even recognize the gem right in front of you.

For families that want more than a series of lines and rides out of their vacation, we have created a challenge in the form of a checklist. As you go about your day in Disneyland, check off as many items on the list as you can and photograph each accomplishment as evidence. Some of them take more time than others. A few may require a bit of cash. All of them work together to give you a quintessential experience of Disneyland that you will always remember. On your mark. Get set. Go!

 1. DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH
  • Item: Seek out the lamp that delivers your fortune for a few coins to learn what your true destiny is. Don’t forget to record the experience on video for a keepsake and future reference.

IMG_0344 4. WINDOW WALK-THROUGH
  • Item: Sleeping Beauty’s castle has a brief walk-through tour that you can take. Her story unfolds through a series of animated windows that are beautifully designed.  There is one window in particular that shows hallway to a dungeon. Wait for one minute and look closely at the guard pacing in the background. You might find that there is a bit of unexpected company.
  • Type: Activity

  • Item: On King Arthur’s Carousel, there is a horse named Jingles. Jingles is a bit more special than the others. • Type: Find-n-Seek
  • Location: Fantasyland
IMG_0586 7. ROUNDUP ROMPS
  • Item: Because it is tucked away, Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree is often overlooked. This is the one place that you can find live animals within the park. Look for the petting zoo populated with friendly goats. Each evening when the ranch closes down, the goats are released to retreat back to their “backstage pens.” It is a small stampede as they open the gates and the goats run through this area of the park in a fast-moving procession. Be there to witness it.
  • Type: Find-n-Seek
  • Location: Frontierland
  • Bonus Points: If it is a weekend, the place is a treasure trove of characters. Many times the characters are less common and harder to find. You will want to jump in for some great photo opportunities.

  • Type: Activity
  • Location: Main Street
IMG_0459 12. THE ROCKETEER HAS LANDED
  • Item: There is a miniature Rocketeer from the 1991 feature film, and he is trapped in a job at Disneyland. • Type: Find-n-Seek
  • Location: Tomorrowland
13. A MAGICAL BEGINNING
  • Item: The comedian, Steve Martin, had his humble beginnings at Disneyland as a Cast Member in the Main Street Magic Shop.
