Why Visiting Disneyland After The 60th Anniversary Will Still Be Special

If you are going to miss visiting Disneyland while the 60th Anniversary decorations are still up, don’t be distraught, there are some positives to the end of the Diamond Celebration. Just because the 60th Anniversary is ending later this year doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still plan on visiting Disneyland after the celebration is over. In fact, here are four reasons why visiting after the 60th Anniversary is over is a good thing:

4) Less 60th Anniversary Merchandise Means More Of Everything Else

Disney did a great job providing some unique merchandise items for the 60th Anniversary. I am guilty of buying a little too much of it myself, but all that Diamond Celebration merchandise going away isn’t the end of the world. The less 60th anniversary merchandise we see means more room for everything else. This could mean some new exciting merchandise could be filling in the spots later this year. This is all speculation on my part, but it seems to make sense. It’s not like Disney would ever leave these shelves empty once the 60th Anniversary ends. The team at Disney Consumer Products has been doing an outstanding job recently with new unique merchandise items in the Disney parks, and I am excited to see what that team comes up with now that the 60th Anniversary is ending later this year.

3) Holiday Decorations Will Seem Special Again

I love the 60th Anniversary decorations, but with year round decorations it can take away the specialness of the holiday decorations. Letting the park have some time without any special decorations up makes the Halloween and Christmas decorations that much more extraordinary. Personally I love visiting the parks when the decorations go up while I am there. There is something magical about the holiday decorations going up, and I think that big reveal is dampened slightly when the park looked just as special in another way the day before with the Diamond Celebration decorations being up already.

2) The Crowds Might Decrease Slightly

In 2015, Disneyland saw an increase of 9% in attendance, which was the largest increase of any of the Disney Parks worldwide for the year. A huge part of that success was the 60th Anniversary. Even typical Walt Disney World visitors from the east coast chose to visit Disneyland this year just to see Disneyland for the Diamond Celebration. The good news for you is that once the 60th Anniversary is over these crowds might go down slightly. Disneyland will never be an empty park, but the end of this year and the beginning of next year might give you the opportunity to see slightly shorter wait times then they were during the Diamond Celebration.

1) Disneyland Will Have Its Iconic Look Again

Like I said, I love the 60th Anniversary decorations, but another part of me won’t be sad when they are taken down. There is something special the way the park looks when it is completely stripped of its temporary decorations. Without the anniversary decorations, the castle looks like it did on opening day in 1955, and there is something special to that. As much as I love special decorations for special occasions most of the time, the theming doesn’t really make sense on Main Street U.S.A. or on the castle, which is why some part of me is actually excited for Disneyland’s Diamond Celebration to be over.
