After years of hearing the consistent plea from fans of the little purple dragon known to EPCOT fans as Figment, it is starting to feel like Disney might be listening after all. It’s a new year, the future seems bright, and I can’t help but feel that there is a reprise in the air for this loveable ball of imagination.
Admittedly, I’ve not always been a huge Figment fan. Still, the passion some Disney guests have for this dragon is almost contagious, making it hard not to be excited that new opportunities seem to be coming for this classic EPCOT character to be returning to the main stage.
In September of 2022, Deadline reported that a new film featuring Figment is already in the works at Disney with Seth Rogan in one of the producer’s chairs. Even though he made a cameo appearance in both Toy Story 4 and Inside out, this would be the first major film that included the EPCOT mascot. We also learned from D23 that a Meet & Greet would return sometime in 2023 with Figment, his first physical appearance in many years.
Then, it was the announcement that the famous Figment Popcorn Buckets would also be returning to the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, along with an armful of merchandise specially dedicated to the character. And now, we are seeing a first look at some of the yummy treats that will be had at the upcoming Festival of the Arts, also dedicated to everyone’s favorite dragon.
Coincidence? My Disney spidey sense says likely not. Could it be that after years of settling for a single attraction in the Imagination Pavilion, Figment might be making a more substantial comeback?
