There are certain Disney Channel and Disney+ movies that simply define a generation, and for so many families, Descendants is at the top of that list. Since 2015, these music-filled adventures have had kids dancing in living rooms, memorizing every lyric, and picking their favorite VK. Watching the franchise grow over the years has been such a joy, and now there is even more to celebrate as the fifth installment, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, is heading to our screens this summer. If the first look is anything to go by, this next chapter is going to be another must-watch moment for fans. Let’s take a look:
According to Disney, the film is set after the time-traveling twists of Descendants: The Rise of Red. The new film explores what “happily ever after” really means for Red and Chloe. This time, much of the story unfolds in present-day Wonderland, where both new and familiar faces step into the spotlight. The lingering warning from the previous adventure hangs heavily over the story: when you alter the fabric of time, there are consequences. In the first look teaser, Red and Chloe attempt to hide their most dangerous secret, the time-traveling pocket watch, inside the Royal Vault. What they do not realize is that a new threat is already closing in.
That threat comes in the form of Maddox Hatter, now revealed as a ruthless villain determined to track down the pocket watch and bend time, and Wonderland itself, to his will. Returning to their roles are:
- Kylie Cantrall (Red)
- Malia Baker (Chloe)
- Leonardo Nam (Maddox Hatter)
- Melanie Paxson (Fairy Godmother)
- Brandy (Cinderella)
- Paolo Montalban (King Charming)
- Rita Ora (the Queen of Hearts)
Joining the franchise are several new cast members who promise to bring even more energy and intrigue to the story. Some of the characters’ names are giving us clues about who in Disney’s character lineup will be joining the crew and where the story might lead:
- Liamani Segura (Pink)
- Alexandro Byrd (Luis Madrigal)
- Brendon Tremblay (Max Hatter)
- Kiara Romero (Hazel Hook)
- Joel Oulette (Robbie Hood)
- Zavien Garret (Felix Facilier)
- Ryan McEwen (Squirmy Smee)
- Dayton Paradis (Squeaky Smee)

Directed by Kimmy Gatewood, with brand new music and dance numbers choreographed by Emmy Award winner Emilio Dosal, the film continues the signature blend of storytelling and showstopping performances that fans have come to expect.
The first look at Descendants: Wicked Wonderland debuted ahead of the Descendants/ZOMBIES Worlds Collide: Concert Special, now available on Disney+, building even more excitement for what is to come. With the franchise already boasting record-breaking viewership, billions of views, and even sold-out arena tours, it is clear that the magic of Descendants is still going strong. This summer, a whole new chapter begins, and I have a feeling living rooms everywhere will once again be filled with dancing feet and familiar songs. Even my almost-adult kids are looking forward to this one!
