Brian Henson has shared that a preserved version of Muppet*Vision 3D is heading to virtual reality, with an initial release planned for Apple Vision Pro and potential expansion to other VR headsets down the line.
The Muppets have been enjoying renewed attention thanks to a new The Muppet Show special on Disney+, and now one of Jim Henson’s most beloved theme park creations may get a second life in VR.
Henson – son of Jim Henson and current chairman of The Jim Henson Company – made the comments during a Q&A after a performance of his improv puppet comedy show, Puppet Up!, at The Montalbán. The event was attended by The Daily Dot, which reported on the exchange.

During the discussion, Henson confirmed that the team took great care in documenting Muppet*Vision 3D for its next chapter. Viewers will be able to choose their seat inside the Muppet Theater, as if they were physically there.
“It’s better than it not coming to VR,” Henson joked, acknowledging that while it doesn’t replace the in-park experience, it does keep the show accessible.
Behind the scenes, this has been building for a while. In May 2025, Disney Live Entertainment Cast Members were invited to a special “Filming Event – Archiving MuppetVision 3D” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios ahead of the attraction’s June 7th, 2025 closure. The following month, Lisa Henson (CEO of The Jim Henson Company) confirmed during the company’s 70th anniversary panel that the show had already been captured with VR cameras and that conversations with Disney about a VR release were ongoing.
There’s still no official launch date or confirmed platform announcement from Disney.
Though many fans (including myself) still hope for the real Muppet*Vision to return to the park in some way. But in the meantime, it’s nice to know the attraction was well-preserved so we can travel back in a way and enjoy the full experience. “Besides, they’re tourists, what do they know?”
How do you feel about this move? Would you enjoy more defunct attractions accessible via VR, like Horizons, or The Great Movie Ride?
