A college athlete filed a lawsuit recently in Orange Circuit Court claiming that an ECV accident at Disney’s Hollywood Studios caused him to miss his basketball season.
The lawsuit against Walt Disney World claims that scooters are allowed to be driven too close to pedestrians. It also says that guests using Disney-owned scooters are not properly trained.
David Maynard was visiting Hollywood Studios in May 2018 when an ECV hit him from behind, nearly severing his left Achilles tendon. The injury required surgery and physical rehabilitation, causing him to miss the 2018-19 basketball season. Maynard is a student at Colgate University in New York.
The lawsuit seeks at least $30,000 in damages, claiming that Maynard “suffered great pain and anguish of the body and mind.”
Disney commented to the Orlando Sentinel that they believe this a matter between two guests and that they will respond to the allegations in court.
