Could New Filing Mean Reflections - A Disney Lakeside Lodge Isn't Dead? Reflections: A Disney Lakeside Lodge at Walt Disney World Resort

A new filing by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Wednesday adds to online speculation that the Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge project may soon resume at Walt Disney World.

Way back in October 2018, a new Disney Vacation Club resort – later named Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge – was announced for Walt Disney World. The Resort was said to be nature-inspired, have more than 900 hotel rooms, and would be located on the old River Country property between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. The resort was supposed to welcome guests in 2022, but the work on the project came to a halt, and it was shelved in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic.

In the past four years, Disney has not publicly mentioned this resort. In fact, the Disney Parks Blog deleted any past mentions of it as if plans never existed in the first place. In May of this year, Walt Disney Imagineering submitted a request to the South Florida Water Management District to extend a permit related to ‘Project 89’ for an additional five years. In the request, Disney said that the project wasn’t completed due to being shut down by the COVID closures. Last fall, Walt Disney Imagineering was granted a five-year extension on another permit for Reflections. That permit is now set to expire on May 31, 2028.

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is reportedly considering a Master Services Agreement with Chen Moore and Associates to install new electrical transformers for servicing what is being referred to as “Project S.” WDWMagic quotes the project brief stating, “The purpose of this project is to provide a new transformer service yard, transformer loop, and SCADA monitoring cabinets for a new resort.”

You may remember that when this project was first announced, we were told that it would include A-framed house accommodations, treehouse suites, and a waterside restaurant inspired by Princess and the Frog.
