Avengers: Infinity War has already set multiple records, but its reign as the top film in the box office came to an end this weekend with the premiere of 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool 2. Bringing in $125 million this weekend, Deadpool 2 not only dethroned Avengers: Infinity War, but it also had the second largest opening for an R-rated film in North America of all-time. While the film did knock Avengers: Infinity War out of the top spot, Deadpool 2 fell short of the estimated $130 million that 20th Century Fox thought the film would take in.
Disney doesn’t stay down for long. While Avengers: Infinity War may have finally been taken down by Deadpool 2 it is expected that with the May 25 release of Solo: A Star Wars Story that Disney will once again own that top spot in the box office.
