During Wednesday’s board meeting, Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) administrator Glen Gilzean noted that the District has spent nearly $2 million in legal fees so far in its ongoing battle with Disney Parks and Resorts.
The lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the CFTOD was filed by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts back in April 2023, stating, “A targeted campaign of government retaliation—orchestrated at every step by Governor DeSantis as punishment for Disney’s protected speech—now threatens Disney’s business operations, jeopardizes its economic future in the region, and violates its constitutional rights” among other things.
Gilzean stated that the District has allocated another $4.5 million toward the lawsuit for 2024, which includes litigation and a financial advisor, among other items.
This announcement was brought to light after numerous firefighters showed up to the meeting in force to express their displeasure about the removal of the Disney pass generational benefit.
