Disney Animation has its next original movie lined up, and we’re starting to learn what it’s all about.
“Hexed” is headed to theaters on November 25, 2026, right over Thanksgiving. That’s a spot Disney tends to reserve for its biggest animated releases, so expectations are already pretty high.
The studio also confirmed the two main voices. Hailee Steinfeld will play Billie, a teen who doesn’t quite fit in and ends up discovering she has magical powers. Rashida Jones plays her mom, Alice, who gets pulled into everything whether she’s ready or not.
The story begins in a rather ordinary setting. Billie is your typical suburban teenager who’s bored more than anything else, until she finds out she’s a witch. That’s when things go off the rails quickly. Then she’s swept into a hidden world called Hexe, that’s filled with magic, strange rules, and a lot she doesn’t understand.
Her mom is there too, and together, they’re working on figuring things out, while also digging into family secrets that seem bigger than either of them expected.
Disney shared a very brief preview that gives a sense of the tone. Billie meets a talking book and pen, and when they ask if she’s ever faced something dramatic like being “burned at the stake,” she shrugs it off and says she’s burned a steak in the microwave. It’s quick, but it tells you this won’t take itself too seriously all the time.
The film is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, with Josie Trinidad as co-director and Roy Conli producing.
Disney has done very well with Thanksgiving releases. Last year’s Zootopia 2 was a huge hit worldwide, so this movie is stepping into a pretty important spot on the calendar.
There’s still a lot we don’t know yet. But a new original story, a mix of magic and family drama, and a strong voice cast is a solid start.
