Jack Lindquist, who spent many years in the Disneyland marketing department and was the first president of Disneyland, has died after a short hospice stay.
Walt Disney hired a then 28-year-old Lindquist in late 1955 to be the advertising manager for the new theme park. There he became part of the team that created Grad Nite, Disney Dollars, the Ambassador program and many other Disneyland staples.
Lindquist moved his way up through the marketing department as director and vice president, working on marketing ideas for both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, as well as setting up the marketing division for Tokyo Disneyland.
Lindquist retired in 1993 after topping off his 38-year career with a three-year stint as the president of Disneyland. He was inducted as a Disney Legend shortly after.
Lindquist was also honored with a window on Main Street at Disneyland, which reads: “J.B. Lindquist, Honorary mayor of Disneyland, Jack of all trades. Master of fun.”
Jack Lindquist was 88.
