Disney security guard denied attorney’s fees after suing Walt Disney World

The security guard who sued Disney last month will not be entitled to attorney’s fees. Camelia Joseph filed a civil suit against Walt Disney World, claiming that she had been discriminated against and as a result, was not promoted in her job. She won the case, though she was not awarded any damages, as the jury said it wasn’t clear that she would have been awarded the promotion anyway. The request for legal fees was a separate case.

Margaret Schreiber, Orange County judge, said, “Attorney’s fees are only available to a party who somehow prevails on its claim to an extent beyond mere technical victory or moral satisfaction.” Joseph said she spent $10,000 on the suit and she plans to appeal, though she says, “It’s not about money. It’s about justice.”

She also enjoys shopping, watching movies with her husband and doing crafts with and for her kids.
