When we visit Disney’s parks, we expect to see heroes from our favorite movies to be brought to life in a way that only Disney can do. What we might not anticipate is that some of the most compelling heroes we’ll meet during a visit are Disney’s very own Cast Members.
Meet DVC Cast Member, Nichole Shaw, who recently received the Disney Heroes Award. If you’re unfamiliar with the award, it recognizes and honors Cast Members who perform extraordinary life-saving acts on or off the clock.
Nichole was performing her daily rounds at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort when she leapt into action to help save a young girl from choking. Of the hundreds of thousands of Cast Members across the Walt Disney Company, just over 100 have been recognized as Disney Heroes since the award’s inception in 2008.
“Having this award every single day to look down on is a reminder that I’m capable of anything, even the scary things,” Shaw said.
Disney Heroes who have performed life-saving acts will wear a small golden Mickey-shaped pin on their name tag. These individuals have shown immense bravery by jumping into high-pressure situations to save lives.
“You are a hero if you’re able to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders but still to come to work, and then go back home and deal with what you have to deal with – that’s not easy – but the fact that you’re able to do it every day makes you a hero too.
I hope that this pin will not only be a reflection of something that happened in my life, but will also be inspirational to the folks that ask the question of “what’s that about?” and it can help them see that they are heroes, right along with me.”
Similar to the Disney Legacy Award blue name tags, we love that these heroes are recognized by Disney with a pin that allows guests to spot them in the parks and also recognize them.
