With the transformation of Paradise Pier into Pixar Pier, the extremely popular Cove Bar was always destined to be a casualty. It has now been revealed that Cove Bar will ultimately become Lamplight Lounge and it will open in the exact same space on June 23 along with the rest of Pixar Pier. As previously announced, even though Cove Bar closed back on January 8 along with California Screamin’, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, and Ariel’s Grotto, it will reopen for a brief time beginning March 16 and then it will close again at the end of May before it is permanently changed.
So what should we be expecting from Lamplight Lounge? Disney Parks Blog shares that the new dining experience will serve “California casual gastro-pub cuisine that is playfully presented along with unique signature cocktails.” The lounge will still contain a full bar with the same views from upstairs and downstairs that Cove Bar offered, which was just one part of the puzzle regarding its popularity. Of course, Cove Bar was renowned for its secret drink menu and Lobster Nachos, and while Disney HAS CONFIRMED that Lobster Nachos will remain on the menu, nothing has been mentioned about the secret drink menu- probably because it’s a secret!
Disney Parks Blog also shared some information regarding the theming of Lamplight Lounge. The idea behind the space is that it was renovated from an old two-story warehouse factory and it maintains features from the original building. Steel structural elements, concrete, and brick walls will all be exposed in the lounge and wood boards will be repurposed as ceiling panels and floors. This style as a whole sounds somewhat familiar to BaseLine Tap House at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which we’ve compared to Cove Bar in the past.
Lamplight Lounge will also celebrate the “creativity, inspirations and personalities of the artists and storytellers who have brought Pixar to life.” This will be seen through concept art, napkin sketches, and knick-knacks and toys adorning the space. These little touches are all supposedly left behind by Pixar regulars who have visited Lamplight Lounge.
To recap – no need to fear, Lobster Nachos will remain here. Cove Bar fans still have another opportunity to visit the charming waterfront location beginning March 16 through the end of May. After closing for a second time, Cove Bar will be fully transformed into Lamplight Lounge and will officially open with the rest of Pixar Pier on June 23, 2018.
