
This week the Disneyland Resort released more information about entertainment, merchandise and food items that are coming for the Diamond Celebration, plus announced a new contest related to the celebration celebrating Disneyland Park’s 60th birthday.
The new contest is called Disneyland Diamond Days and will award guests of the Parks both daily and weekly prizes. Daily prizes include individualized tours of the Parks, dining and VIP viewing of the new nighttime spectaculars. One and two carat diamonds and a crystal Cinderella slipper are highlights of the weekly prizes, some of which also include stays in the Disneyland Dream Suite.
For the Diamond Celebration more than 500 different merchandise items will be available, including sparkling Mickey ears and hands.
In addition to special Diamond Celebration cupcakes, crisped rice treats and cotton candy, the Disneyland Resort is creating 14 different Diamond Celebration drinks, many with an Odwalla frozen lemonade base. The drinks will be available at 11 different locations around the Resort.
At California Adventure, a new Dinoco oil can sipper will replace the current orange cone sipper. At Disneyland new Mickey Mouse balloon shaped popcorn buckets will be appearing.
Though no photos were allowed, some new details of the three new nighttime spectaculars were released as well.
“World of Color: Celebrate – The Wonderful World of Walt Disney” will feature hosts Mickey Mouse and Neil Patrick Harris. New hand-drawn animation is being created for both Mickey and other animation throughout the show.
Following the opening, the first section of the show will focus on Mickey himself, followed by a section focusing an Disney animated features, then a section celebrating Disneyland Park. The finale focuses on the future.
The show will feature new lighting and new effects, including a new projection on Mickey’s Fun Wheel.
“Disneyland Forever”, the new fireworks show in Disneyland Park will feature two new songs, including “Kiss Goodnight” by Disney Legend Richard B. Sherman.
The show will also feature music from Mary Poppins, Tangled, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo and Frozen.
In addition to traditional fireworks, “Disneyland Forever” also features lighting effects all over the Park, including projections on Main Street USA, the Matterhorn, the front of It’s a Small World and the Fantasmic water screens. More than 100 searchlights have been installed around the Park and at one point, lasers emanating from Sleeping Beauty Castle will bathe the Park in a blue glow.
The new nighttime electrical parade, “Paint The Night”, will feature several of the floats from the Hong Kong Disneyland version of the parade, along with some new floats created specifically for Disneyland park, including a huge drum float reminiscent of the Main Street Electrical Parade and a float based on Frozen.
Other floats in the parade feature Peter Pan & Tinkerbell, Cars characters, Belle, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Toy Story characters, plus Mickey and all of his friends.
The parade will interact with both Made With Magic merchandise and an upcoming smartphone app.
Disneyland Park celebrates its 60th birthday on July 17th, but the Diamond Celebration begins May 22nd at the Disneyland Resort.
