Next up was an interview with Jenna Ortega, star of the Disney Channel show Stuck in the Middle, as well as the voice of Isabel, Elena’s younger sister. Ortega expressed how much she loved portraying Isabel and how the show emphasizes how important family is in Hispanic cultures. In the show, Elena is working to protect her family and her kingdom from an evil sorceress and uses lessons from her grandfather Francisco to do so.
Sharon Madill, of Disney Creative Entertainment, mentioned that Elena was the first crown princess to visit the Magic Kingdom and that she is traveling around the world to learn about other cultures before taking her place as queen.
Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager at Disney, brought several Elena items that are now available for purchase at the Disney parks, as well as on the Shop Disney Parks app. Some of the merchandise he featured included an Elena dress, tiara, light-up scepter, plush dolls, and play set. At the D-Tech On Demand stations in Tomorrowland and Disney Springs, guests can also create Elena of Avalor retail MagicBands and custom phone cases. betfinal
After that, it was finally time for the Royal Welcome to begin! The program began with Avalor’s Royal Singers taking the stage and singing one of the songs from the show. They were followed up by Jim MacPhee, Senior Vice President of Walt Disney World Parks. MacPhee spoke of how Elena was a special and inspiring teenager who is learning to rule her kingdom, then introduced Nancy Kanter and a Girl Scout executive to present the first “Elena of Avalor Scepter of Light”award to a Girl Scout who demonstrated an exceptional commitment to community service. This award was given to Ashley Chico, a Girl Scout from the Citrus Council in Orlando, who created a project to bring learning resources to classrooms that will encourage girls to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math).
After the women exited the stage, Cinderella and Prince Charming stepped forward to introduce Elena and welcome her to their kingdom. Elena’s processional was led in by flags and musicians and she was riding in a horse-drawn carriage through the crowd, followed by a group of Girl Scouts. Once on stage, Elena swore to protect and defend Avalor, and told the royals that anything is possible with familia and friends. As music is a large part of the Elena story, she then sang the show’s signature song “My Time.” She concluded the presentation by telling everyone to “Discover the potential in yourself to create your own adventure.”
After confetti cannons shot streamers into the sky, the royal processional took off around the Castle Hub and down Main Street, U.S.A. so Elena could greet her royal subjects. In the background, an Elena of Avalor banner could be seen hanging from the castle.
Elena of Avalor can be seen on Disney Channel Fridays at 7:30 ET/PT and on Disney Junior on weekends.
