The Disneyland Resort has filed plans for a new transportation hub and parking structure project east of the resort on Manchester Avenue.
The new 7-level parking structure is set to be built where the Pumbaa parking lot is now. At 6,800 space it will be smaller than the current 10,000 space Mickey & Friends Parking Structure.
In addition, Disneyland will close its current transportation hub for hotel shuttles and will be building a new transportation hub adjacent to the parking structure, plus an elevated pedestrian bridge to get guests from the structure and the hub across Harbor Boulevard and to the Resort. To make way for the bridge, the Carousel Inn & Suites, which Disney purchased last year, will close in October.
Dubbed the “Eastern Gateway”, the new parking structure project is aimed at keeping northbound I-5 guests off the main roads bordering Disneyland, including Harbor Boulevard, in order to alleviate some of the current traffic congestion issues.
Construction is set to begin in early 2017, with an expected opening date of late 2018.
