Star Wars fans have been aware that the newest film in the franchise would pick up directly where The Force Awakens left off, and this has lead to much speculation. On Wednesday Walt Disney Studios shareholders were treated to a glimpse of what we may expect from the upcoming film when Disney CEO Bob Iger gave them a sneak peak of the opening scene, as well as a sizzle-reel of the movie.
The Force Awakens ends as the film’s protagonist Rey meets Luke Skywalker on an island clifftop to return his lightsaber. We see Luke turn and reveal himself and then… credits. Los Angeles Times reporter Daniel Miller was present for the private screening and revealed what happens next. Luke asks Rey, “Who are you?”, to which she replies by skillfully handling his lightsaber. Although that is not a lot of new information, when it comes to Star Wars not a lot is required to start massive speculation among fans.
Appearing in the sizzle-reel were franchise notables Chewbacca, General Leia Organa, and Finn. Bob Iger promised that The Last Jedi is “worth the wait.”
