Harrison Ford’s accident on Star Wars set results in charges filed

Criminal charges have been filed against Foodles Production (UK) Ltd., the division of the Walt Disney Co. that produced Star Wars: The Force Awakens. British health authorities have been investigating the on-set accident that resulted in a broken leg for film star Harrison Ford.

Ford was filming at Pinewood Studios in London in June 2014 when he was hit by a hydraulic door on the Millennium Falcon set. He had to be airlifted to a hospital to have surgery and film production was halted for two weeks.

The Health and Safety Executive said, “by law, employers must take reasonable steps to protect workers – this is as true on a film set as a factory floor.” They are charging Foodles with “four breaches of workplace health and safety laws.” A court hearing will take place in May.

Foodles responded and said “the safety of cast and crew was a top priority” and they were “disappointed by the decision to prosecute.”
