Land Preparation Permits Filed for Disney’s 50 Megawatt Solar Farm

Land Preparation Permits Filed for Disney's 50 Megawatt Solar Farm solar-permit

Disney’s newest solar project is set to dwarf the existing Hidden Mickey solar farm located outside of Epcot, and its construction timeline seems to be right on schedule. Work was expected to begin on the new 50 Megawatt solar farm this spring, and permits recently filed with the state show that preparation of the 270-acre property will begin soon.

The FL Solar 5, LLC Project is being constructed by Origis Energy, a Miami-based company with over 100 international and domestic projects to their credit. An easement was signed with the Reedy Creek Improvement District in February that allows Origis to build the farm over 270 acres on the east side of Highway 429, just west of Disney’s Magnolia and Palm golf courses.  Its 518,000 solar panels will provide 50 megawatts of power to Reedy Creek and the Walt Disney World Resort area.

Permits filed on April 9th are for “clearing and minor grading to support a solar development,” and plans are included for modifications of existing stormwater management systems. This site preparation is necessary for the complex construction process that is sure to follow.

Origis shows December of 2018 as their projected date for an operational facility; the solar farm is expected to create approximately 300 jobs throughout its run.
