As expected, layoffs began today at the Disney-ABC Television Group, affecting employees at ABC Entertainment, ABC Studios, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, and Freeform.
Affected employees were notified this morning and although a 10% cut in employees was expected, according to Variety, the layoffs will be significantly lower. The cost-cutting measure also shouldn’t have any impact on production or programming, as most of the layoffs are in other areas.
The layoffs come as this area of the company attempts to restructure itself, with new forms of distribution and more automation, as more viewers consume their content digitally or on-demand.
Disney-ABC Television Group had no comment on the layoffs.
