There’s a new little piece of Disneyland history arriving this week, and it’s the kind of thing that’s going to hit longtime fans right in the feels.
Starting April 22, guests can pick up the Skyway Straw Clip, a tiny red gondola inspired by the classic Disneyland Skyway. It’s simple. It’s cute. And, it’s the kind of souvenir that “you either get it, or you don’t.”
But here’s the thing, this isn’t just about a straw clip.
If you’ve been around Disneyland long enough, you remember the Skyway. The buckets gliding overhead. That slow ride through the park. Cutting right through the Matterhorn. It wasn’t flashy. It didn’t need to be. It was just part of the place. And technically, it still is.
When the Skyway closed in 1994, it didn’t completely disappear. The track and towers were removed, but parts of the system remain and are visible to guests. Inside the Matterhorn, the old Skyway infrastructure hasn’t been fully taken out. It’s one of those weird, fascinating bits of Disneyland history that never fully left; hidden in plain sight.
That’s why something like this straw clip lands differently for me. It’s a reminder of what used to be, and what still could be.
Because let’s be honest, people haven’t stopped talking about bringing it back. Not in a serious rumor way, but in that constant, hopeful fan way. The idea is right there. A shorter route. A modern system. Something like the Disney Skyliner over at Walt Disney World, but scaled for Disneyland.
It wouldn’t just be transportation. It would be atmosphere, movement, and kinetics in the sky again.
And yes, we’re absolutely going to say it out loud. Disney, please bring it back!!!
Until then, this little Skyway Straw Clip is doing a lot of heavy lifting. It’s a nod to a ride that meant more than it probably should have. And judging by the reactions in the Disney Eats comments section so far, it’s going to be one of those small items people grab quickly and hold onto.
