Walt Disney World has announced that Animal Kingdom will be receiving its own dose of holiday magic this year.
When guests head over the bridge into Discovery Island, they’ll find themselves right in the middle of a winter celebration. The village will be filled with “sparkling white holiday decorations” that were hand-crafted by the artists who call Discovery Island home. “Colorful, animal-inspired luminaries line the rooftops, and wireframe lanterns in the shape of beautiful birds can be found perched throughout the area.”
During the day, the island will host a gathering of winter animals in the form of “life-size, artisan-sculpted puppets.” Reindeer, foxes, polar bears, penguins, and more will interact with guests as they’re serenaded by musicians playing festive holiday music.
Rooftop luminaries and bird lanterns will be added to the entire village and at the center of the park, the Tree of Life will awaken with “wintry tales, complemented by a familiar and heartwarming holiday-inspired musical score.” The Tree of Life will “shimmer and sparkle throughout the night, alive with the magic of nature and the spirit of the holidays” between the awakening moments.
Take a look below at what’s in store for the other lands throughout the park:
DinoLand, U.S.A.: Guests will find their Disney character friends together for Donald’s Dino-Bash! Colorful holiday decorations in the style of Donald Duck will adorn the land and each of his friends. At night, guests are invited to “gather ‘round Truck-O-Saurus for the Holiday Hoopla Dance Party with Chip ‘n Dale” and to play interactive games.
Asia: “The residents of Anandapur will decorate the theatre district in celebration of Diwali, the holiday festival of lights in India. Glowing flowers, lanterns and more illuminate the square between Anandapur Theater and the waterfront stage, home to authentic cultural performances.”
Village of Harambe in Africa: Visitors will be welcomed with a “unique holiday presentation, blending the inspiration and style of western traditions with the colors and textiles of authentic African celebrations. The various groups appearing throughout Harambe introduce holiday-inspired enhancements, including costume additions and new music, to their performances. The holiday fun continues inside Tusker House for dining with Disney friends, where Mickey and his pals spread holiday cheer throughout the meal.”
Pandora – The World of Avatar: The ex-pats who reside on the moon of Pandora will “bring a little Christmastime fun to their alien home, with a display at Pongu Pongu of kitschy holiday décor, combining vintage pieces from Earth with items handcrafted from materials indigenous to Pandora.”
The holiday festivities at the Walt Disney World Resort begin November 8, 2019.
