The Shanghai Disney Resort, a joint venture between the Walt Disney Company and the Shanghai Shendi Group, will open to guests on June 16, 2016 after a multi-day grand opening event.
The new resort will be located in the Pudong District of Shanghai and will feature classic Disney storytelling woven with experiences tailored for China.
The Shanghai Disneyland theme park will feature six themed lands all centered around the Enchanted Storybook Castle, the largest Disney castle ever. Guests will visit Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove…the first pirated-themed land in a Disney park…and Fantasyland. Among the park’s attractions and entertainment offerings will be many first-of-a-kind attractions, such as the TRON Lightcycle Power Run.
The resort will feature two hotels, both located near Shanghai Disneyland. The elegant Shanghai Disneyland Hotel has an art nouveau theme and a little Disney magic. The Toy Story Hotel immerses guests in the Disney-Pixar series of films.
Disneytown is the resort’s shopping, dining and entertainment district and is located near the entrance to Shanghai Disneyland. Disneytown includes the Walt Disney Grand Theatre which will premiere the first Mandarin production of “Disney’s The Lion King”.
Rounding out the resort is the expansive Wishing Star Park, featuring a lake, gardens and a walking path.
According to Chairman and Chief Executive Office Robert A. Iger, “When it opens in June, Shanghai Disney resort will be a one-of-a-kind, world class destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese.”
