SeaWorld has announced that it will temporarily furlough over 90% of its employees as of April 1 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. All 12 of their theme parks around the United States are currently closed to guests but their animal care team will continue caring for the animals.
While the furloughed employees will not receive their pay after March 31, they will be eligible to file for unemployment benefits according to the company’s SEC filing.
Our parks will remain closed and are unable to generate revenue; therefore, we have made the painful but necessary business decision to temporarily furlough over 90% of our current workforce, including corporate employees, to position the company for long-term viability.
The length of the furlough is not known at this time.
