The San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) is happening this weekend and we’ve seen a lot of fun character pop-ups and now two big announcements from Marvel Studios!
First up, Ghost Rider is officially in development and scheduled to hit theaters in 2028. Ghost Rider will star Ryan Gosling as the motorcycle-riding, supernatural superhero. Ryan Gosling made a surprise appearance to announce his role saying – “Wow, is this really happening? As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a very long time.” The film will be directed by Shawn Levy who also directed Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Levy and Gosling are currently working together on Star Wars: Starfighter premiering in theaters on May 28, 2027.
Marvel fans can also look forward to a third Black Panther film coming to theaters on December 15, 2028. Ryan Coogler will return as director, coming off his first Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay directing Sinners. Joining Coogler on stage for the announcement was Letitia Wright (Shuri) and Winston Duke (M’Baku). It was also announced that David Jonsson will be joining the franchise as the new Black Panther; T’Challa’s son Prince T’Challa II. You might recognize David Jonsson from his impactful roles in the The Long Walk and Alien: Romulus.
SDCC has been a big weekend for Marvel fans with an Avengers: Doomsday panel that included appearances by Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres), Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom), and Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards). Fans also got a surprise visit from Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool when he showed up in the audience to ask the cast some colorful questions.
